The comparative
characteristics of different pillows
What haven’t we seen when it comes to commercials?! We watched the
weights being dropped onto the pillow lying on the glass sheet while the glass
remained unbroken! We saw the imprint made by the knee (!) and watched it
disappear "reeeal slooow!" We saw happy smiling faces lying on all
kinds of stuff pretending they are comfortable. What does it have to do with
real pillow usage? Nothing, right. Unless, of course, you want to drop weight
on a glass sheet using your pillow as a glass protector instead of sleeping on
it. Apparently not everybody understands that pillows are meant for the neck
and head support, not the glass protection! Armed with this great insight we
looked at the today’s pillow market and saw that the seemingly large variety of
pillows available is deceitful. From the functional point of view all of them
could be divided into 2 groups. All the pillows with soft filler such as goose
down, feathers, synthetics, buckwheat hull etc. are one group.
Another group are the pillows made out of elastic materials such as polyurethane, foam rubber or latex and exhibiting a roll or rolls on the sides and an indentation in the middle.
All the pillows of the first group are no good for sleeping at all
because they are totally incapable of keeping the spine aligned properly in any
position. They are good for decorative purpose only. It makes no difference
what they are filled with because any filler moves away from the pressure
point. So, even if you are comfortable at the moment when you lay down you
become uncomfortable as your head makes an indentation where it is at and
therefore lowers down.
Using second group pillows sometimes allows you to achieve a proper
alignment in prone position at best.
When you are trying to lie on your side your shoulder inevitably pushes
the pillow forward and your head ends up on a roll or hump of the pillow.
Such position is uncomfortable and leads to muscles and ligaments
overstretching, which results in pain, muscle spasm, headaches and tiredness.
Sleep&Heal pillow is the only pillow that has a built-in intelligence
to recognize your sleeping position be it on the back or on the side and
readjust accordingly.
Please note that sleeping on your stomach is incorrect and any pillow
will only make it worse, but if you happen to use Sleep&Heal pillow it will
simply move away as you place your head under the front roll.
When you lie on your back the front portion of the pillow bends sown
under the weight of your head and supports your head and neck.
When you turn during sleep you lift your head and the front roll flexes
up without any effort on your part. It gets in between your cheek and your
shoulder thus supporting your neck and head and decreasing the pressure of your
head on your shoulder.
Proper alignment keeps your blood circulation undisturbed and your
breathing passages unblocked resulting in better blood exchange in your head
and decrease of snoring. It also creates favorable conditions for venous blood
outflow and prevents swelling of the face after sleep and increased eye pressure.
